JAS Rejects Claims of 2026 World Cup Broadcast Rights Acquisition
Jasmine International Public Company Limited (JAS) has officially denied reports suggesting it has secured the broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Company representatives stated that no announcement regarding such a deal is imminent.
Recent media circulated claims that JAS had finalized an agreement with FIFA to broadcast the 2026 World Cup within Thailand and was preparing to publicly announce the arrangement. However, these claims have not been officially substantiated.
Sources close to the matter have confirmed that JAS has not yet reached a definitive agreement with FIFA and have refuted reports of an already secured deal. The company also reportedly denied plans for a press conference scheduled for June 10, with a spokesperson indicating an inability to disclose details of ongoing negotiations.
Licensing Fee Discrepancy Hinders Deal
The primary obstacle in securing the broadcasting rights appears to be the significant difference in proposed licensing fees. FIFA is reportedly seeking approximately US$40 million (equivalent to 1.3 billion Thai baht) for the rights in Thailand. In contrast, JAS is understood to be negotiating for a figure closer to US$15 million (approximately 487 million Thai baht).
This proposed amount is reportedly comparable to the fee paid by Vietnam for its World Cup broadcasting rights. Reports suggest that FIFA’s current asking price exceeds that of several neighboring countries. This higher valuation may be influenced by Thailand’s expenditure of around 1.4 billion Thai baht for the 2022 World Cup broadcasting rights.
