Massive Drug Haul Uncovered Following Friend’s Informant Role
A man in Thailand’s Udon Thani province has been arrested for his alleged role in a significant drug trafficking operation, a situation that unfolded after his friend inadvertently led authorities to the contraband. The operation resulted in the seizure of nearly 800,000 methamphetamine tablets, locally known as Yaba.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
Officials from Border Patrol Police Division 24 announced the key details of the operation on June 8. The arrests of two individuals, identified as 38-year-old Chatchai and 36-year-old Preedee, took place in Nong Saeng district. The arrests followed a raid conducted at approximately 3 a.m. on June 7 at a rubber plantation. During this raid, law enforcement officers discovered and seized 769,000 Yaba tablets, along with two mobile phones that are now undergoing further investigation.
Investigation Traced Back to Earlier Bust
This significant bust is reportedly linked to an earlier arrest made on April 24 in Sakon Nakhon province. In that incident, police apprehended a trafficker in possession of 2.8 million Yaba tablets. Information provided by that suspect reportedly exposed a larger criminal network, leading authorities to identify Chatchai as a member. Consequently, law enforcement began closely monitoring his activities.
Vehicle Tracking and the Role of the Friend
Investigators reported tracking Chatchai’s vehicle, a bronze-grey Suzuki Swift, after detecting movements consistent with drug transportation activities originating from Nakhon Phanom province. Officers intercepted the car as it was en route to Chatchai’s residence. However, it was Preedee who was found driving the vehicle. Preedee informed officers that his friend, Chatchai, had requested he deliver a package to a remote cottage in a forested mountain area. Preedee subsequently guided police to the location, where the substantial quantity of drugs was discovered.
Confession and Previous Convictions
Chatchai initially attempted to evade capture by fleeing into the forest but was later apprehended after police engaged his mother to persuade him to surrender. Reports indicate Chatchai confessed to his involvement in drug trafficking, stating that he joined the network after forming connections with gang members during a prior prison sentence. He admitted to engaging in similar activities previously and stated he was promised 20,000 baht for this most recent delivery. He also indicated an intention to share 10,000 baht with Preedee.
Friend’s Reaction and Potential Consequences
Preedee maintained that he was unaware of Chatchai’s involvement in drug trafficking and claimed he did not realize the package contained illicit substances until his arrest. Despite the circumstances, Preedee expressed no anger towards his friend, citing Chatchai’s past support for his family, including providing transportation to medical appointments. During questioning, both men reportedly became emotional and embraced each other. Despite his claims of ignorance, Preedee may still face legal repercussions for his role in transporting the drugs.
