A Nakhon Ratchasima resident has become the latest victim of an online shopping scam, purchasing a ring advertised as gold for 6,730 baht, only to discover it was a counterfeit. The incident, which occurred recently, has prompted the shopper to share her experience as a cautionary tale for others navigating the world of e-commerce.
The Deceptive Online Purchase
The woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, detailed her transaction on Monday, September 21. She purchased a 1.9-gram ring through a popular online shopping platform, paying 6,730 baht for the item, which was listed with a discounted price from its original 7,476 baht. While she did not explicitly name the platform, a screenshot she provided suggested the purchase was likely made via TikTok Shop. The seller indicated that the item would be shipped from overseas, with an estimated delivery time of approximately eight days.
Upon receiving the package, the shopper noted that the packaging appeared suspicious. This prompted her to record a video of herself opening the parcel. Her suspicions were quickly confirmed when she took the ring to a local gold shop for appraisal. The staff at the gold shop informed her that the ring was not made of genuine gold.
Attempted Resolution and Seller Disappearance
Following the discovery of the counterfeit item, the woman attempted to contact the seller to arrange for a refund. However, she found that the seller’s online shop had been abruptly closed, rendering them unreachable. This common tactic leaves many consumers without recourse when faced with fraudulent sellers.
The shopper has since escalated the issue to the platform
