Intense Rainfall Expected Across Northern and Northeastern Regions
Forecasters are issuing critical alerts for heavy rainfall across Thailand’s northern and northeastern provinces, with a heightened risk of flash floods and overflows. The advisory comes as a robust southwestern monsoon intensifies, currently dominating the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Monsoon Trough to Bring Significant Precipitation
From Monday through Saturday, the monsoon trough is projected to extend across Myanmar, the upper northern regions of Thailand, and upper Laos. This weather system is expected to interact with a low-pressure area situated in Vietnam, further intensifying rainfall potential. Authorities warn that the accumulation of heavy rain could trigger dangerous flash floods, rapid runoff, and overflowing waterways, particularly in the western parts of the North, the Central Plains, and eastern Thailand.
Maritime Warnings Issued
In response to the developing weather conditions, mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution. Small boats operating in the upper Andaman Sea are strongly recommended to remain ashore until Friday. This precaution is due to anticipated wave heights that could reach two to three meters, posing a significant hazard to navigation.
