Resort Claims ‘Worst Experience’ After Tourist Altercation
A seaside resort in Songkhla has detailed a significant dispute with a group of Indian tourists, describing the incident as the most challenging in its five years of operation. The establishment shared its account on social media on June 12, outlining a series of escalating conflicts.
Early Check-in and Occupancy Issues
The disagreement reportedly began when the group requested an 8 a.m. check-in without paying the standard early arrival fee. The tourists had booked three tents, with each tent designated for two guests, totaling six individuals. However, the resort claims the group attempted to accommodate nine people in these tents, seeking to avoid additional charges for extra occupants.
reports the resort indicate that the tourists also expected additional services without supplementary payment and sought exemptions from established policies. These demands reportedly contravened rules that had been communicated prior to their arrival.
Allegations of Aggression and Verbal Abuse
When resort staff attempted to clarify the charges and policies, the group allegedly responded with rude and aggressive behavior. The establishment’s statement alleges that employees were subjected to verbal abuse, and one female staff member was reportedly left distressed.
To de-escalate the situation and prevent further issues, the resort decided to offer a full refund and requested the group depart the premises. Despite the refund offer, the dispute reportedly continued.
Refund Dispute and Verification
According to the resort’s account, the tourists then asserted that they had paid substantially more than the actual booking cost. The room rate was stated to be approximately 700 baht per night, yet the group allegedly sought a refund exceeding this amount.
The resort claims it presented booking confirmations and payment records from the booking platform to verify the transaction. A full refund was subsequently issued, matching the recorded payment amount.
Resort Emphasizes Behavior Over Nationality
The resort stressed that over its years of operation, it has welcomed guests from diverse nationalities and backgrounds. The establishment maintained that the incident was a matter of behavior, not nationality.
The business stated that no operator should be expected to tolerate verbal abuse of staff, attempts to exceed occupancy limits without payment, disregard for property rules, or unfounded claims regarding payments.
Advice for Industry Operators
The resort encouraged fellow hotel and resort operators to maintain meticulous records of bookings, payments, and guest communications. This practice, it suggested, could aid in the resolution of future disputes.
The statement concluded with a general message to guests, urging them to demonstrate respect for staff, the property, and established rules.
In separate but related news, approximately 20 rooms of tourists in Kamala, Phuket, were recently required to find alternative accommodations following the hotel operator’s eviction from the property due to a separate dispute.
