Orchestra Presents Hungarian Masterpieces
The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (RBSO) is set to present an evening of Hungarian classical music titled ‘Melody For The Queen.’ The concert will feature renowned conductor Vanich Potavanich, a distinguished figure in Thailand’s classical music landscape.
A Celebration of Hungarian Composers
The program highlights the rich musical heritage of Hungary through the works of two iconic composers: Franz Liszt and Zoltán Kodály. The audience can anticipate hearing two of Liszt’s most celebrated compositions. These include the virtuosic Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 and the deeply expressive Piano Concerto No.2 In A Major.
Rounding out the program is Kodály’s vivid Háry János Suite. This orchestral piece draws inspiration from Hungarian folk traditions and the adventurous tales of a legendary soldier-storyteller. Together, these selections are designed to showcase the passion, technical brilliance, and distinct national character that define Hungary’s musical legacy.
Distinguished Pianist Takes Center Stage
The featured soloist for the evening is Phu Koanantakool, recognized as one of Thailand’s most accomplished pianists. His extensive musical education spans studies in Thailand, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland. Phu has cultivated an international career, performing across Europe and Asia.
Phu Koanantakool is particularly noted for his dedication to the music of Franz Liszt. In 2022, he achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Thai pianist to perform the complete Études D’exécution Transcendante. He also holds the positions of founder and artistic director for the Thailand International Piano Festival. In recognition of his contributions to promoting Liszt’s music, Phu was the first Thai national to receive Hungary’s Pro Cultura Hungarica Award in 2026.
