A foreign national is facing deportation from Thailand after a violent outburst in the popular beach town of Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, left multiple individuals with minor injuries and resulted in property damage. The man, identified as a 40-year-old Qatari national named Abdulla Yousif Ha Al-Harqan, entered Thailand on a tourist visa valid until September 22, 2026, and is now facing assault charges.
Violent Incident Unfolds in Hua Hin
Eyewitness accounts and shared video footage suggest the disturbance began inside a cannabis shop. According to witnesses who spoke with local Thai media, the altercation escalated quickly. The man reportedly damaged property within the shop and physically assaulted another customer before exiting the establishment. Once outside, his aggression continued, with reports indicating he assaulted anyone who approached him.
Suchitra Namthong, a 20-year-old nail technician who captured part of the event on video, described hearing the commotion from her workplace across the street. She stated that the man first attacked someone inside the shop before emerging and shouting. His aggression then turned towards a motorcyclist who had arrived to pick up his girlfriend.
Attack on Vulnerable Individuals
The situation took a particularly disturbing turn when the man approached a disabled woman selling flowers from her wheelchair on a street corner. Video evidence appears to show the man snatching her flowers, striking her in the face, and then dragging her out of her wheelchair. Several bystanders intervened to help the woman and to restrain the assailant. Ms. Namthong noted that approximately five people were required to subdue him due to his size.
A cannabis shop employee, who wished to remain anonymous, also sustained injuries. The 32-year-old woman recounted going downstairs to investigate the noise and being immediately struck on the left side of her face by the man as she opened the door. A cyclist who attempted to intervene in the escalating violence was also reportedly attacked.
Investigation and Compensation
The injured cannabis shop employee suggested that the violence may have stemmed from an argument with another customer, possibly related to religious differences, though this remains unconfirmed. Medical professionals at Hua Hin Hospital confirmed that six individuals were treated for minor injuries sustained during the rampage.
Hua Hin Police have been investigating the incident. On Monday, authorities facilitated discussions between the victims and the alleged perpetrator. Mr. Al-Harqan reportedly agreed to pay a total of 100,000 Thai baht in compensation to those affected by his actions. This includes a sum of 25,000 baht specifically allocated to the woman who was selling flowers from her wheelchair.
Deportation Proceedings
Following the completion of the legal proceedings related to the assault charges, authorities are expected to revoke Mr. Al-Harqan’s tourist visa. His deportation from Thailand is anticipated as a consequence of his actions.
