A 36-year-old cook, identified as Aung Pyae, has been apprehended in Yangon, Myanmar, in connection with a brutal murder and dismemberment case in Bangkok. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between Thai and Myanmar law enforcement agencies.
Suspect Apprehended in Joint Operation
Police confirmed the arrest on Saturday. Pol Col Sakkaya Saengwan, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1, is set to travel to the Mae Sot district in Tak province. There, he will take custody of Aung Pyae at the immigration checkpoint before transporting him back to Thailand to face legal proceedings.
Gruesome Discovery Leads to Investigation
The apprehension follows the disturbing discovery of the dismembered remains of Aye Aye Nwe, a 34-year-old Myanmar national who worked as a bar waitress in Bangkok’s Klong Toey area. Her remains were found concealed within a plastic storage box on the rear balcony of a rented room located on Ratchaprarop Soi 14 in the Ratchathewi district. The discovery was made shortly after midnight on Friday.
Jealousy Suspected as Motive
Investigators have identified the victim’s husband, Aung Pyae, as the primary suspect in the case. Security camera footage reportedly captured him leaving the scene and subsequently hiring a passenger van. This vehicle transported him from Bangkok to Mae Sot, indicating an apparent attempt to flee across the border into Myanmar.
Authorities believe that jealousy was the likely motive behind the killing. Reports suggest the suspect had accused his wife of having a new partner.
Arrest Warrant Issued
Following the investigation, detectives from the Din Daeng police station successfully obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court. Aung Pyae is charged with premeditated murder and the unlawful concealment, movement, or destruction of a body or body parts with the intent to hide the cause of death.
Initial Alert and Forensic Evidence
The initial alert to authorities came on Friday at 3:30 AM. Police at the Din Daeng station received reports of a suspicious object and a foul odor emanating from an apartment on Ratchaprarop Soi 14. Responding officers and rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were dispatched to the location.
Upon entering the room, they discovered the large plastic box containing the dismembered remains of a woman. A preliminary examination indicated that the victim’s head and several other body parts were missing, leading investigators to suspect they were disposed of elsewhere.
Forensic teams were present at the scene, collecting crucial evidence including fingerprints, DNA samples, and other materials pertinent to the investigation.
