Lifeguards Act Swiftly to Prevent Beach Tragedy
Phuket lifeguards successfully intervened yesterday, June 10, after a foreign woman disregarded safety warnings and entered rough seas at Patong Beach. The incident, captured on video and shared widely, highlighted the critical role of beach safety personnel.
Witnesses reported that the woman removed a red warning flag, which signifies hazardous conditions, and proceeded to enter the water. A video shared on social media platform Facebook by Sarid Pongpawn documented the dramatic rescue. In the accompanying caption, Pongpawn expressed his relief, stating, “A heart-stopping moment. A real story with no script. This foreign woman grabbed a red flag and ran into the sea. Fortunately, lifeguards on Patong Beach managed to rescue her. Thank you!”
Reckless Actions in Hazardous Conditions
The footage clearly showed lifeguards closely observing the woman as she approached a rocky section of the shoreline. She then deliberately removed a red warning flag, erected to alert beachgoers to dangerous sea conditions. Following this action, the woman entered the ocean and climbed onto nearby rocks. Throughout this time, a lifeguard was heard repeatedly urging her to move away from the area for her own safety, while strong winds and rough waves were visible in the background.
At one point, a powerful wave crashed over the rocks, nearly sweeping the woman away. Lifeguards eventually managed to persuade her to exit the water and escorted her safely from the hazardous zone.
Subsequent Disturbances and Investigation
Following the beach incident, Patong Police Station officers were called to the scene to provide assistance. Reports later emerged from Amarin TV detailing further disruptive behavior by the woman along the beach road that same evening. Media outlets indicated that she removed her clothing and walked naked in a public space, exhibiting erratic conduct.
A 25-year-old masseuse reportedly claimed that the woman attacked her, and that she defended herself. During a search of the woman’s belongings, authorities discovered a package containing cannabis. Police indicated to local media that they suspected her behavior might be linked to cannabis consumption, though no official medical confirmation has been released.
Resolution and Family Involvement
Authorities eventually located the woman’s younger sister, who was at a local salon. Police reported that the sister confirmed she could take responsibility for her sibling. Amarin TV also reported that the masseuse involved in the alleged assault chose not to press charges. As no legal action was pursued, police permitted the sisters to return to their accommodation.
