Prominent Thai Musician Sek Loso Granted Parole
Renowned rocker Seksan Sukpimai, widely known as Sek Loso, was released on parole on Wednesday from Khao Kling prison in Phetchaburi province. His departure from the correctional facility was met by a significant gathering of supporters and media representatives.
Family members, including his wife Wiphakorn Sookpimay, were present to welcome the 51-year-old musician. Seksan had been serving time for charges including illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, resisting law enforcement officers, and drug use.
Sentence Reduction and Parole Approval
Seksan’s original sentence totaled two years, 12 months, and 20 days, with his incarceration commencing on May 20, 2025, and an initial release date set for May 31, 2028. However, a royal pardon issued on June 3 reduced his sentence by five months and 20 days. This adjustment brought his total sentence to two years, six months, and 30 days, with the full term now scheduled to conclude on December 13, 2027.
A special parole recommendation for Seksan was put forth by a corrections department panel on May 27. The Justice Minister subsequently approved this recommendation on June 19, paving the way for his early release.
Following his release, Seksan has been fitted with an electronic monitoring device.
Background of the Case
The legal proceedings stem from an incident in late December 2017, when Seksan was accused of firing shots into the air at a temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat. This event prompted authorities to seek an arrest warrant for the musician.
He was later apprehended at his residence in Bangkok.
