A foreign motorcyclist, believed to be Russian, has sparked online backlash after crashing a rental scooter during an off-road adventure in Phuket.
Details of the Incident
Recent video footage captures the rider, dressed in white, navigating a red Yamaha NMAX scooter—unsuitable for off-road conditions—along a rugged dirt track. He attempted to climb a steep, rocky hill but failed to reach the summit.
A second foreign man joined to push the bike uphill, but their efforts fell short. The rider then tried to navigate a narrow ledge on the hill. He lost control, sending the scooter tumbling down the slope. The fall caused significant damage, with visible parts breaking off the vehicle.
Several other foreign riders and motocross fans watched the mishap unfold. The clip ends with close-ups of the damaged scooter and skid marks left on the track.
Online Reaction and Concerns
Thai social media users have condemned the rider’s reckless actions, highlighting the risk to rented property. Many question whether he will compensate the rental company for repairs.
Commenters worry the rider might leave Thailand without settling the damages, noting that Phuket rental shops often skip holding tourists’ passports. Others demand a police probe to identify and hold the individual accountable.
Authorities have yet to respond, and the rental owner has made no public statement.
