Defence Minister Lt Gen Adul Boonthumjaroen held a significant meeting with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday, engaging in discussions focused on regional security imperatives and the enhancement of bilateral defence cooperation.
During the exchange, Lt Gen Adul underscored Thailand’s unwavering commitment to its enduring strategic partnership with the United States. He also expressed gratitude for Washington’s ongoing support in advancing Thailand’s defense industry capabilities. Key areas of collaboration highlighted included the development of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), counter-UAS technologies, cybersecurity advancements, space technology initiatives, and modern battlefield management systems.
Strengthening Joint Operations and Humanitarian Aid
Both officials reaffirmed the critical importance of the annual Cobra Gold exercise. There was a shared consensus to further elevate this multinational drill, aiming to improve operational readiness, foster seamless joint operations, and bolster humanitarian assistance capabilities.
Addressing Transnational Crime and Regional Stability
The discussions also encompassed an agreement to modernize existing cooperation frameworks. This includes intensified joint efforts to combat transnational crime, with a specific focus on dismantling online scam networks. Furthermore, the two nations committed to promoting peaceful dialogue and de-escalation in the context of regional disputes.
