Desperate Act Leads to Arrest in Gold Shop
A 26-year-old man, identified as Surasak from Buriram, was apprehended Saturday evening after an alleged attempt to steal a valuable gold bracelet from a shop in Bang Phli district. The suspect reportedly found himself locked inside the Yaowarat Bang Phli gold shop, leading to his swift capture.
The Attempted Escape
According to officials, Surasak had recently been involved in a traffic accident, causing damage estimated at approximately 200,000 baht. Unable to cover the costs, he allegedly entered the gold shop with the intention of stealing. He is reported to have repeatedly asked to try on a gold bracelet valued at around 71,000 baht. Initially, the shopkeeper declined the request.
However, after persistent requests, the vendor eventually allowed Surasak to wear the bracelet. At this point, the shopkeeper purportedly secured the shop’s doors. Surasak then allegedly attempted to flee the premises with the bracelet, only to discover the doors were locked, trapping him inside.
Confession and Charges
Police were subsequently called to the scene. During questioning, Surasak reportedly confessed that his financial desperation, stemming from the accident damages, drove him to commit the theft. He has been charged with attempted theft.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect had recently caused a traffic accident by driving against the flow of traffic, leading to his inability to pay for the incurred damages.
