A tragic incident has claimed the life of a young boy in Nakhon Si Thammarat, after he was attacked by his grandfather’s pet monkey. The six-year-old, identified as Ekkarat Sichan, suffered fatal injuries during the assault in village 4, tambon Theppharat, within the Sichon district.
Brutal Attack Under Investigation
According to police investigators, the boy was rushed to Sichon Hospital following the attack but unfortunately did not survive his wounds. Ekkarat was a first-grade student at Ban Khao Yuan Tao School.
The macaque, kept as a pet by his grandfather, Jaroon, had been with the family since it was an infant. Reports indicate the monkey was not trained for tasks such as coconut harvesting but was primarily kept for companionship.
The animal was secured by a long rope tethered between two trees, with a wooden beam that allowed it to climb and move within its enclosure. On Saturday morning, the young boy reportedly walked past the monkey when the sudden attack occurred.
Monkey Remains Secured as Inquiry Continues
Eyewitness accounts suggest the monkey grabbed and bit Ekkarat, inflicting severe wounds to his chest and leg. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the monkey remained tethered at the scene as the investigation into the circumstances of the attack continues.
