Suvarnabhumi Airport has issued an apology following an incident last week where a group of fans disrupted boarding procedures for a flight to Beijing. The chaos unfolded when fans attempted to follow a Chinese celebrity onto a Thai Airways International flight, leading to a standoff and the eventual denial of boarding for 22 individuals.
Details of the Suvarnabhumi Airport Incident
The disruption occurred late Wednesday night, around 11 p.m., as fans sought to accompany a popular Chinese celebrity onto Thai Airways flight TG674, destined for Beijing. While the celebrity’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, airport management confirmed that the fans intended to board the same flight.
According to airport officials, the fans gained unauthorized access to the passenger lounge, proceeding to follow the artist even after being denied entry. Airport security was called to escort the fans out of the lounge. Undeterred, the group then pursued the celebrity to the holding room for passengers awaiting boarding.
Boarding Process Disrupted
The situation escalated as the fans rushed towards the aerobridge, attempting to get as close as possible to their idol. They reportedly refused to have their boarding passes checked as they converged on the aircraft door. To prevent further disruption and ensure safety, airline staff were compelled to close the plane’s door, temporarily denying entry to the fans whose tickets had not been validated.
Following this, airline personnel and security guards led the group back to the holding room. Ultimately, 22 fans were refused boarding. This decision was based on their non-compliance with safety measures and airline regulations, with airline staff expressing concerns that the group could have caused disorder on the aircraft, potentially leading to an uncontrollable situation after takeoff.
Fan Reactions and Airport Response
Of the 22 fans denied boarding, 12 agreed to have their luggage removed from the flight. The remaining ten fans reportedly expressed their dissatisfaction through provocative gestures directed at the officials on duty. This led to further friction as authorities attempted to manage the situation.
Suvarnabhumi Airport management acknowledged that while security guards were focused on ensuring the safety of passengers and flight operations, some personnel exhibited behavior that did not meet service standards or airport regulations. The airport formally
