In the men’s football tournament, the Thai U23 team has been placed in Group A alongside host nation Japan, Kyrgyzstan, and Hong Kong. Dr. Gongsak views this draw as a significant opportunity for the team to test its mettle against elite international competition.
“The Asian Games feature a U23 competition, and Thailand is grouped with Japan, Kyrgyzstan, and Hong Kong,” Dr. Gongsak stated. “Being drawn with the host nation, Japan, a world-class team, presents a fantastic opportunity. It’s not every day our players get to compete against a team of such high caliber.”
He added his belief in the Thai squad’s capabilities: “I am confident that with the potential of the Thai national team, we should be able to advance to the later rounds of the tournament.”
The men’s football competition will involve 15 participating countries, divided into four groups. The format is a round-robin within each group, with the top two teams from each group securing a spot in the knockout stage. The football matches are scheduled to commence earlier than the official opening ceremony, with Thailand’s first match against Kyrgyzstan in Group A set for September 16.

“I am confident that we will at least reach the semi-finals,” he asserted. “Our team has demonstrated its strength on the continental stage before.”
