Luxury Perfume Counterfeiting Ring Busted in Bangkok
Authorities have conducted a significant raid on a property in Bangkok’s Ramkhamhaeng area, uncovering a large cache of counterfeit luxury perfumes. The operation, which took place in the Bang Kapi district, resulted in the seizure of numerous fake fragrance bottles, with estimated losses to legitimate brand owners reaching approximately 500,000 baht.
Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaowanasai, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, confirmed the details of the bust on Saturday. During the raid, a man identified as Chayanon was present and identified himself as the caretaker of the premises. Investigators believe the location was being used as a hub for storing and distributing the illicit goods.
Investigation Stemmed from Online Sales Complaint
The successful raid was initiated following a complaint lodged against an online seller accused of marketing and selling fraudulent luxury-brand perfumes. These counterfeit products were reportedly advertised as authentic items, sometimes presented without their original packaging or as imported goods sold solely with the bottle. This strategy allowed the sellers to offer the fakes at prices substantially lower than the genuine market value.
Extensive Seizure of Falsified Brands
The search of the property revealed a vast collection of bottles bearing falsified trademarks from numerous globally recognized luxury brands. Among the brands identified were Dior, Louis Vuitton, Celine, Givenchy, Hermès, Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Boss, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Burberry, Chanel, Armani, Coach, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Prada, Victoria’s Secret, Jo Malone, and Bvlgari.
Suspect Confesses to Online Purchasing and Resale
The individual apprehended at the scene reportedly confessed to the charges. He stated that he had acquired the counterfeit products through online channels and local markets situated near his residence. These items were then resold to consumers with the intention of generating profit.
