Buriram United on Cusp of Historic Treble in FA Cup Final Showdown
Football powerhouse Buriram United stands on the brink of securing a remarkable treble this season as they prepare to face Prachuap FC in the highly anticipated FA Cup final. Having already clinched the Thai League 1 title and the Shopee Cup, Buriram aims to add another prestigious trophy to their cabinet.
Prachuap Acknowledges Underdog Status, Vows Fierce Competition
At a pre-match press conference, Prachuap’s head coach, Sasom Pobprasert, candidly addressed the significant challenge ahead. “We understand we are the underdogs heading into this match against Buriram, but our ambition is to win,” Pobprasert stated. He emphasized the unpredictable nature of a single-match final, adding, “This is a major game, and in a one-off final, anything can happen. We will not back down.”
Pobprasert lauded Buriram’s formidable depth and considerable financial resources, characterizing them as “one of Asia’s top-tier teams.” He highlighted their ability to seamlessly rotate high-quality players, making them exceptionally difficult opponents. “Playing against Buriram presents a significant challenge, but we also possess talented players,” he remarked. “Facing them provides us with invaluable experience in a prominent Thai tournament.”
Buriram Confident with Returning Players, Focused on Victory
Representing Buriram, team director Samaporn Polbutr conveyed optimism, confirming the return of several key players from injury. “Our hope is that the team can successfully defend the trophy this year,” Polbutr announced. Defender Naruebodin Weerawatnodom underscored the importance of maintaining concentration throughout the match. “Prachuap is a strong team, and their coach is adept at altering tactics,” Weerawatnodom noted. “We cannot afford to underestimate them. We have one final match and one clear objective: to emerge victorious.”
FA Cup Final Stakes: Prize Money and Continental Qualification
The stakes are high for both clubs. The victorious team in the FA Cup final will be rewarded with five million baht and a coveted spot in the AFC Champions League Elite group stage. The runners-up will receive one million baht.
National Team Camp Commences for Upcoming Friendlies
In parallel developments, nineteen members of the Thai national team reported for duty on Saturday at the Novotel Future Park Rangsit hotel. This marks the beginning of preparations for the upcoming Fifa international window next month. Veteran striker Teerasil Dangda was among the players present, joined by Sarach Yooyen and Suphanan Bureerat. Four additional players – Jude Soonsup-Bell, Iklas Sanron, Naruebodin Weerawatnodom, and Teerapat Pruethong – are scheduled to join the squad on Sunday.
Thailand is set to face Kuwait in a friendly match at Pathum Thani Stadium on Friday. Subsequently, the team will travel to China for a second warm-up fixture on June 9 at the Jinhua Sports Center Stadium. These matches are integral to head coach Anthony Hudson’s strategy for building up to the next stage of World Cup qualifying later this year.
