Pheu Thai party officials have definitively stated that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will not play any role in the party’s operations or administration moving forward. This clarification comes in the wake of his recent royal pardon, granted in honor of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday.
No Discussion of Thaksin’s Return
When questioned about the possibility of party members seeking a meeting with Thaksin following his pardon, Julapun Amornvivat, a prominent figure within the party, asserted that there are no ongoing discussions regarding such matters. “There is no discussion on the matter within the party,” Julapun stated. He further elaborated on the prospect of Thaksin’s renewed involvement, unequivocally answering, “As for whether he will become involved with the party again, the answer is no.”
Assertions of Party Autonomy
Julapun also addressed concerns about potential external influence on the Pheu Thai party’s decision-making processes. He urged the media to cease raising questions about such interference, emphasizing that the party has moved beyond that stage. “I would like to tell the media that we have moved beyond the point where questions about interference in the party’s administration should be asked,” he declared.
Commitment to Core Ideology
The party intends to continue its work by adhering to the core ideology and principles that have guided it since its inception, tracing back to the era of the Thai Rak Thai Party. “Pheu Thai has its own principles and ideas. We are ready to bring those beliefs to the people and pursue our objectives. There is no external domination of the party,” Julapun affirmed, underscoring the party’s commitment to self-governance and its established foundational beliefs.
