A community is in shock following the tragic discovery of a missing seven-year-old girl, whose body was found three days after she disappeared from her home in Sang Khla Buri district, Kanchanaburi. Authorities have reported that the girl’s thirteen-year-old sister has confessed to her killing.
Investigation Unfolds After Disappearance
The search for the younger child began after she was reported missing from the family residence. She was last seen on the evening of May 29 at a local grocery store before vanishing. Officers later located the child’s remains in a palm plantation, a discovery made three days after the initial missing person report.
An autopsy determined the cause of death to be respiratory and circulatory failure. Investigators noted that there were no immediate signs of physical injury or sexual assault. The child’s father expressed his disbelief to police, stating he did not believe his daughter would have gone to the plantation alone and suspected foul play.
Suspects Emerge, Confession Made
The investigation involved collecting DNA samples from over 25 individuals in the vicinity, including local residents, monks, construction workers, and members of a travelling outdoor theatre group. More than 40 people were questioned as part of the extensive inquiry. Initial focus was placed on individuals outside the immediate family.
However, the investigation later identified two family members as persons of interest: the deceased’s older sister and a teenage uncle. During a press briefing on Saturday, June 6, officials stated that the thirteen-year-old admitted to an argument with her younger sister. According to the account provided to authorities, the dispute centered on a toy and a mobile phone.
Details of the Incident
The thirteen-year-old reportedly confessed that during the argument, she covered her younger sister’s mouth and nose, which led to the child’s death. She then allegedly enlisted her uncle’s assistance to conceal the body. Reports indicate the body was initially kept in a wardrobe before being moved to the palm plantation.
Family Reactions and Legal Proceedings
Family members have expressed difficulty in accepting the reported sequence of events. The mother indicated that the older child had previously denied any involvement. Relatives have urged the public to refrain from online speculation. The father also voiced his skepticism that a disagreement over toys or phone use could result in such a tragic outcome, noting he no longer lived with the family and could not offer further details.
Both minors are currently in custody and under the supervision of the Kanchanaburi Juvenile and Family Court.
