Tuk Tuk Driver Recounts Ordeal After Alleged Drugging
A tuk tuk driver in Phuket has reported losing valuable gold accessories, estimated to be worth over 300,000 baht, following an incident involving a female passenger who allegedly provided him with a drugged beverage. The driver, identified as Somnuek, was discovered unconscious inside his vehicle and subsequently taken to the hospital by concerned bystanders.
Incident Details Emerge
The alleged incident occurred on the evening of June 4. According to Somnuek’s account to authorities, he picked up a Thai woman around 9 p.m. and dropped her off in the Karon subdistrict. The passenger then requested his assistance in recording a video, which he agreed to do. Following this, she hired him again for a ride to a location near Kalim School in the Kathu district.
Alleged Drugging and Theft
Upon arriving at the second destination, the woman reportedly offered Somnuek a cup of coffee, claiming she was seeking feedback as she planned to open a coffee shop. Somnuek stated that shortly after consuming the coffee, he began to feel an overwhelming sense of drowsiness and has no recollection of subsequent events. He regained consciousness to find several of his personal belongings missing, including a gold necklace, a gold bracelet, and his mobile phone. He suspects the coffee was tampered with, leading to his incapacitation and subsequent robbery.
Investigation Underway
When initially questioned, Somnuek was reportedly disoriented and unable to provide a complete narrative of the events. He is currently receiving ongoing medical treatment, and tests are being conducted to determine if any substances were present in his system. Reports indicate that a video circulating online appears to show the driver tasting the coffee and offering a positive review of its flavor. The source of this video has not been publicly disclosed.
As of the latest information, medical test results have not yet been released, and law enforcement officials have not provided further updates on the investigation into the alleged drugging and theft.
