Violent Winds Batter Bangkok District, Causing Widespread Damage
A powerful storm swept through Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district late yesterday afternoon, resulting in the collapse of approximately 40 electricity poles and significant disruption. The incident, which occurred around 5:30 PM, impacted a two-kilometer section of Chalong Krung Road between Soi 31 and Soi 57.
Eyewitness accounts describe a ferocious, swirling wind that tore through the area, bringing down power poles on both sides of the road and rendering the thoroughfare impassable. The storm also caused extensive damage to residential properties, with numerous houses losing their roofs.
Vehicles Damaged, Residents Rescued
Around 30 vehicles sustained damage during the severe weather event. Reports indicate at least two individuals were trapped in their cars. One sedan was reportedly crushed in the front by a fallen electricity pole, trapping its driver. Emergency responders from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, working alongside local residents, swiftly deployed cutting equipment to aid those in need, despite the ongoing heavy rain.
First aid was administered to three individuals at the scene before they were transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
Power Restoration Efforts Underway
Crews from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority are currently engaged in the challenging task of removing the downed poles and power cables. Their immediate priority is to restore electricity to hundreds of homes and businesses that are experiencing a blackout and internet disconnection following the storm’s impact.
