Chon Buri Police Investigate Major Cable Heist
Authorities are actively pursuing a group of individuals believed to be responsible for a significant theft of electrical cables, valued at approximately 600,000 baht, from a construction site in Chon Buri province. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of June 4th in the Ban Bueng district, saw a gang of over ten people allegedly tie up and assault a security guard before making off with the valuable materials.
Reports indicate the robbery took place between 1:23 AM and 2:20 AM. The perpetrators reportedly arrived in two pickup trucks and used a knife to intimidate the security guard. Following the assault, they bound the guard’s hands and feet before loading new electrical cables onto their vehicles.
Investigation Leads to Multiple Arrests
CCTV footage captured during the incident provided crucial evidence for investigators. Analysis of the footage allowed authorities to trace one of the vehicles to a scrap metal shop. Further investigation into vehicle registration led police to an area in Pluak Daeng, Rayong. There, officers intercepted a grey pickup truck that matched the description of the vehicle seen in the security footage.
The driver of the truck, identified as 34-year-old Ye Htwe, was taken into custody for questioning. His girlfriend and her older sibling were also brought in. Subsequent interrogations resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects: 27-year-old Sai Htet Aong, believed to be the driver of the second pickup truck; 18-year-old Wai Gan; and 34-year-old Ye Ko Lin.
Ye Htwe, Sai Htet Aong, Wai Gan, and Ye Ko Lin have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery and admitted to selling the stolen cables to a local scrap shop. Authorities escorted the accused to the shop, where the sale of the cables was confirmed.
Manhunt Continues for Remaining Suspects
Police are now searching for the remaining members of the gang, including a man identified only as Maung, who is believed to have led the operation. Investigators suspect this group may have carried out similar cable thefts in the jurisdictions of Khlong Kio, Nong Yai, and Pluak Daeng police stations.
In a separate incident, a man suspected of stealing cables from Trang Hospital sustained injuries after a motorcycle crash while attempting to evade hospital security guards in Mueang Trang district, Trang province.
