Bangkok Clinic Temporarily Closed Following Serious Adverse Reaction to Weight-Loss Injection
A beauty clinic in Bangkok has been ordered to cease operations for 15 days following a serious incident where a client required hospitalization after receiving a weight-loss injection. The closure comes after a viral social media post detailed the severe side effects experienced by a woman undergoing treatment.
The complaint, initially shared on Facebook by the woman’s husband, alleged that his wife suffered adverse reactions after a weight-loss injection administered at a clinic located in the Ram Inthra area of Bangkok. According to the husband’s account, the injection was administered by a clinic employee, not a licensed medical professional. He also claimed that no prior medical assessment, diagnosis, or health screening was conducted before the procedure.
Following the onset of symptoms, the woman reportedly contacted the clinic. It was subsequently revealed that the product administered had not been registered with Thai regulatory authorities.
Investigation Launched into Clinic’s Practices
The public outcry spurred by the allegations prompted an immediate inspection by officials from the Department of Health Service Support, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on June 4.
During interviews and an on-site inspection, authorities were informed that the woman had initially sought treatment at the clinic on May 29. She was reportedly looking for a weight-loss solution with minimal side effects and was interested in the medication Mounjaro.
Investigators were told that a clinic employee recommended a product named VitaPeptix NOVOTRIMPLUS+, describing it as having very few side effects. The woman agreed to the treatment and received the injection the same day.
Client Hospitalized, Violations Identified
Symptoms began to manifest on May 30, and the woman’s condition worsened, leading to her admission to a hospital in the Sai Mai district on May 31.
Officials stated that the clinic’s operations violated standards outlined in the Hospital Act, primarily because the weight-loss procedure was performed by an individual who was not a licensed doctor. Furthermore, investigations confirmed that VitaPeptix NOVOTRIMPLUS+ had not received registration from the relevant Thai authorities.
Additional findings during the inspection revealed that the clinic had relocated from its registered address without informing regulatory bodies, a mandatory requirement. The packaging of medications provided to clients also lacked crucial information, including the clinic’s name and location, as well as expiry dates.
Clinic Faces Consequences, Legal Action Pending
As a direct result of these identified violations, authorities have mandated the clinic to suspend all operations for a period of 15 days, effective from June 4. Further investigations and legal proceedings are currently underway.
The woman’s husband expressed his gratitude to the agencies involved for their swift response to his complaint. He indicated his intention to pursue legal action to seek compensation from the clinic owner and any other parties implicated in the incident.
