Boeing 767 Diverts to Narita After Incident
A Japan Airlines Boeing 767 carrying 218 passengers and eight crew members made an emergency landing at Narita International Airport on Monday. The flight was en route from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to Kagoshima Airport in southwestern Japan when the diversion occurred. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among those on board.
The aircraft touched down at Narita around 11:55 AM local time. Following the landing, Narita’s Runway A was temporarily closed for approximately two hours to allow officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Debris Found on Haneda Runway
Officials from the ministry’s Tokyo airport office later confirmed that debris was discovered on Runway D at Haneda Airport, the same runway the Japan Airlines flight had used for its departure. This runway was closed from around 10:30 AM as authorities worked to determine if the discovered debris was connected to the aircraft’s emergency landing.
The investigation into the debris concluded, and Runway D at Haneda Airport was reopened around 1:45 PM.
Previous Aviation Incident Reported
This event follows a separate incident on Monday where a Skymark Airlines passenger jet also made an emergency landing. That flight, a Boeing 737, landed at Haneda Airport after a tire issue was detected. Subsequently, one of the aircraft’s tires was found to be ruptured.
