Phuket provincial court rejected bail for Parinthorn Ruengrattanawanich, known as “Sia Lek,” due to fears of witness tampering and threats to complainants.
Police Escort and Charges
Investigators from Karon police station escorted the 51-year-old suspect to court on Thursday to request detention approval. Pol Col Pathapee Srichai, the station chief, confirmed the action.
Sia Lek faces four charges for allegedly encroaching on the Nak Kerd mountain forest reserve, impacting more than 10 rai of land. He surrendered to authorities on Tuesday and acknowledged the accusations.
Police strongly opposed bail during the hearing, citing significant risks.
Court Decision and Detention
Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the court ruled against bail, highlighting concerns that the suspect might interfere with evidence or intimidate villagers who filed complaints with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Authorities immediately transferred him to Phuket Provincial Prison.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul directed an urgent investigation into local officials in Phuket and Surat Thani. The probe targets alleged involvement in foreign nominee businesses, illegal land encroachments, and other violations in key tourist zones.
