Government departments and state enterprises across the country have implemented energy-saving initiatives in response to surging oil prices triggered by the Middle East conflict, a key region for global energy supply.
Department of Rural Roads Leads Efficiency Drive
The Department of Rural Roads, part of the Ministry of Transport, has optimized energy consumption on rural highways while upholding strict safety standards.
Officials have dimmed or turned off lights during low-traffic periods in low-risk zones, such as areas outside communities or off-peak hours.
“Since implementation on May 1, electricity costs have dropped by up to 40%,” stated Ploytalay, a department spokesperson. She noted that average traffic in these areas remains around 60 vehicles per hour.
LED Upgrade Planned for Long-Term Savings
The department aims to replace 800,000 streetlights with energy-efficient LED bulbs, targeting full installation by 2028.
