Nationwide Subsidy Scheme Concludes Registration with Millions Participating
The government’s “Thais Help Thais” initiative has concluded its registration period, drawing significant engagement from consumers and businesses across the country. Launched on May 25th, the program aimed to stimulate economic activity and alleviate living costs for citizens.
Record Registration Numbers Highlight Program’s Reach
As of Thursday, the scheme had registered over 26.2 million individuals, with more than 25.48 million successfully approved to receive benefits. Notably, a substantial portion, approximately 74% or 18.84 million participants, were returning beneficiaries from the previous “Khon La Khrueng Plus” program. The addition of 6.64 million new applicants signals an expansion in public access to state welfare initiatives.
Demographic Breakdown of Participants
Analysis of the approved registrants reveals that the largest demographic group comprised individuals aged 31-45, totaling over 8.2 million participants. Those aged 46-60 followed with 7.2 million, and the 21-30 age bracket saw 4.7 million participants. Women constituted the majority of approved registrants, representing 56% of the total.
Businesses Show Robust Engagement
The program also saw strong participation from the business sector. Over 1.02 million merchants registered, with more than 652,000 already approved and actively participating. Food and beverage establishments represented the largest category of participating businesses, followed by general retailers, state-backed “Blue Flag” shops, Otop community enterprises, and public transport operators.
Regional Business Trends
The northeastern region recorded the highest number of participating businesses. However, Bangkok remained the single province with the most concentrated number of registered merchants.
Government’s Economic Objectives
Officials stated the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to boost grassroots economic activity, reduce the cost of living, strengthen purchasing power, and generate income for small businesses and local communities. The program was introduced, in part, as a response to increased energy costs associated with global conflicts.
Registration Deadline and Verification Process
The registration system, accessible via the Paotang mobile application, closed at 10 pm on Friday with no extensions. Despite over 4.1 million entitlements remaining available as of 1 pm on the final day, the deadline was maintained. Applicants undergoing the three-day eligibility verification process, who had registered before the cutoff, will not forfeit their rights.
